GOLDSTONE SCHOOL

Goldstone School of HOPE WORLDWIDE (GSHW) is located in a small country sandwiched between Thailand and Vietnam called Cambodia. The school was started in the year 2002 by the main donor, Mr Joon Kim and his family including his son Mr. Frank L. Kim. They were a family who saw the need to help a country which was torn apart by war. They met the need by opening up a school and focusing on the youth. The schools mission is to have high academic standards, Christian moral teachings, and close student and staff relationships.
The expectation is that the students of GSHW will attend universities on scholarship. The vision is that the students will be the leading people for Cambodia’s future , making a brighter day for all of Cambodians. In the school there are 4 main subjects: Khmer, English, Computer, and Christian Moral teaching. This also creates a full day of education. School hours are Monday through Saturday, 7:30-5pm. In the Christian Moral class, the students receive lessons on how to be well mannered, to be kind to others, to be optimistic and so on. This also plays an important part in understanding how to contribute to society.
Now, the school only selects 18 children for each new incoming 1st grade class. They will continue until they reach 12th grade. Speaking as a student of GSHW, we are truly proud to study here and learn all that the staff would like us to know. So we will make sure that the donors, our parents, and others won’t be disappointed.

To friends and supporters of Goldstone,

017.JPGTo introduce myself, my name is Tiffany Poole and I am very happy to be the new English teacher here at Goldstone School of Hope Worldwide.  To let you know a little bit more about me, I have had a passion for the work of Hope Worldwide for a long time and have been fortunate to volunteer with them for the past 10 years. I have a background in education and had been working as a mentor and counselor for children in the inner cities of Los Angeles for the past few years.
In 2009 I graduated from California State University of Fullerton where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Child development, emphasizing in education. While I was receiving my education I always envisioned myself going abroad to teach. So, as you can imagine, I was very excited to hear the news that I was offered this position.
Since my arrival two months ago I have had to make adjustments on many levels, and so far I have enjoyed every minute of it.  The staff at Goldstone are some of the warmest and the most kind hearted people I have ever met, and children are full of hope and ambition. Regardless of any trails that the students have been through they still come to school ready to learn. Cambodia is a truly magical place filled with a painful and complicated past, yet is developing into a place with a thriving future.
Thank you again for all of your support and I look forward to continuing to share with you all of the great things that Goldstone is doing.

GOLDSTONE SCHOOL ’s Journalism Club

017.JPGAt the end of our tenth grade year (2010-2011), the English teacher, Ms. Tiffany Poole created a journalism club. There are nine members who are contributing to the newspapers.
Our newspaper will be published every month. The goal of the club is to create a newspaper every month and give it to the students and staff at Goldstone School. The experience of running our own newspaper is to help us improve our writing and journalistic skills.
We will benefit in many ways from participating in the club. It is an important factor in college entrance and can be very helpful for us to find jobs.
The students in the school can also improve their knowledge by reading this newspaper.
